Union Pacific 1111 features a colorful mural across the long hood of this specially decorated diesel locomotive. Both sides are unique with respect to the imagery of employees presented. Kato’s model comes in three operational versions: standard DC, Digital Command Control-equipped, and DCC with sound.
Kato’s N-scale SD70ACe Union Pacific “Powered By Our People”
Kato’s past SD70ACe diesel locomotive releases for its N-scale model have included Union Pacific’s (UP) “The Spirit of the Union Pacific” and George Bush Library and Museum special paint schemes. Now, the hobby manufacturer offers UP 1111 with its intricate and multicolor livery dubbed “Powered By Our People” roster member.
This one-of-a-kind decoration came about from a systemwide online employee vote conducted by the railroad.
A dozen employees worked to bring the design to reality at UP’s Jenks Shop in North Little Rock, Ark. The special road number 1111 represents UP goals of being number one in railroads, employees, safety dedication, and vision as part of the “Building America” slogan and campaign.
ABOVE: The model comes assembled as a standard DC offering (176-8412), with Digitraxx Digital Command Control (176-8412-DCC), and in a version with ESU LokSound DCC and audio (176-8412-LS).
