Sunset Models announces a new line of high-quality HO-scale models will debut with a coming Southern Pacific (SP) steam locomotive release. Sunset Models’ new Legends series will provide reproductions of some of railroading’s most legendary prototypes. The Legends HO models will be a blend of brass, die-cast metal, and plastic brought together to create fine-scale offerings. These coming models will include factory-installed digital sound and Digital Command Control produced by SoundTraxx.
Sunset’s Legends series launches with Southern Pacific’s P-8 and P-10 class 4-6-2 Pacific-type steam locomotives. Three versions are included in the announcement: P-8 No. 2467, P-10 No. 2487, and Daylight scheme P-10 No. 2485. The P-10 details will present SP’s skyline casing over the top of the boiler section. Additional details will include operating cab roof vents, tender water and oil hatches, operating cab aprons, and fully detailed and decorated cab interiors with painted handles and dials.
Many of the Pacifics were built by Baldwin in the 1920s for passenger service between Ogden, Utah, and Oakland, California. When larger and more powerful 4-8-2 Mountain type locomotives replaced Pacifics on long runs, the 4-6-2s were relegated to local service between San Francisco and San Jose.
Production for the coming HO Legends series P-8 and P-10 steam locomotives will match customer reservations. Sunset Models projects delivery for these new HO scale SP steam locomotives during the fall of 2017. The models carry a $699.95 suggested retail price. Sunset Models and its dealers are currently accepting pre-order reservations now.
