HO ScaleRapido Trains is bringing another unusual prototype to the ready-to-run plastic HO scale market with its newly announced models of Rio Grande’s rebuilt Alco PB units Nos. 252 and 253.

Originally built as cabless passenger boosters, the two units were extensively rebuilt by Denver & Rio Grande Western for continued service and developed a distinctive appearance that set them apart from standard Alco PBs. Rapido’s production will cover several variations in their appearance, from the initial rebuilding in the 1960s through their later years in Rio Grande Ski Train service.

Appropriate body details and truck variations will be included to represent the prototypes during different periods of their careers, giving Rio Grande modelers several options for recreating these unique units in passenger service. The models are priced at $159.95 each.
