Walthers announces HO bi-level open auto rack for Mainline series

HO ScaleWith tooling based on an AccuRail model (that had its basis in a Custom Rail effort), Walthers brings a bi-level open auto rack to the hobby company’s Mainline series.
This ready-to-run release will possess several newly created elements that will include a die-cast metal underframe, swinging drawbar design for its knuckle couplers to allow for operation on 24-inch radius and wider curves, and retooled underbody details for the 89-foot flatcar base. The Paragon II-style bi-level superstructure will include factory-installed rack cross braces, correctly placed and sized road name placards as appropriate, and bridge plates included for the owner to install depending on the era desired (bridge plates on early prototypes and no plates on later service prototypes). The model will ride on 70-ton roller bearing trucks equipped with 33-inch metal wheelsets and the release will include Proto MAX metal knuckle couplers.

ABOVE: As per prototype, these open auto racks included flatcars that often were part of TrailerTrain’s pool, while other schemes show railroad markings on both superstructure and flatcar. This group replicates 1960s and 1970s prototypes.

This first group presents Baltimore & Ohio, Erie Lackawanna, Norfolk & Western, Penn Central, Pennsylvania Railroad, Santa Fe, and Union Pacific. Four road numbers are coming for each road name for this $39.98 release.
