Atlas’ Master Line HO-scale General Electric (GE) U33B/U36B will see a 2021 release (planned for 2nd Quarter delivery) that will include several new paint schemes and an improved newly revised tooling for the model’s cab contour. The similar looking four-axle GE U-boats arrived on the North American railroading scene in the late 1960s. For this new production, Atlas plans three new paint schemes Conrail, Guilford (Boston & Maine), and Rock Island (mid-1970s “The Rock” blue and white) for its U33B diesel locomotive model. The similar U36B model will be back with CSX as a new paint scheme (two road numbers in YN2 livery and a “dark future” blue MCVX “Safety Train” example). When it first arrived, one area of concern among strict-minded molders was the contours of the cab on Atlas’ HO-scale U33B/U36B. This situation is being addressed by a newly tooled cab section that will be included on the coming 2021 editions of this Master Line model. Atlas will offer a “Silver Sound Ready” version of its U33B/U36B models that will come with a wired speaker installed at the factory that allows for easy conversion by the owner of their choice of Digital Command Control (DCC) sound decoder. The Master Line Gold models will come equipped with DCC and ESU’s LokSound system.
