Broadway Limited delivers SD70ACe for N scale

N scaleBroadway Limited Imports delivered its first production of N-scale SD70ACe diesel locomotives with more than a dozen paint schemes covering a variety of contemporary Norfolk Southern and Union Pacific roster members.

This all-new tooling effort reproduces one of today’s most common diesels used in North American railroading. This Electro-Motive Division (EMD) prototype saw introduction in the early 2000s and was a Tier 2-compliant offering capable of producing 4,300 horsepower.

More recent production examples, beginning in 2012, meet Tier 3 emissions regulations and produce 4,500 horsepower. This flared-radiator, six-axle diesel continued EMD’s designs that first saw use with SD80 and SD90 series models. Among buyers for EMD’s SD70ACe, you’ll find prototype examples working for BNSF, Canadian National, CSX, Ferromex, Kansas City Southern, Montana Rail Link, Norfolk Southern, Union Pacific, and others.

The new model features Broadway Limited’s Paragon 3 sound and operation system, which provides a dual-mode (DC and Digital Command Control) decoder and audio output. The design includes a plastic body shell with die-cast metal chassis with separately applied handrails, air horn, and other fine details. The drive mechanism features Back EMF for smooth slow-speed operation in both DC and DCC use. The model comes equipped with directional LED lighting, including illuminated ditchlights.
