AutoFlood III coal hopper coming to HO from Rapido Trains

Rapido Trains is working on another all-new freight car model for its HO line. The coming rapid-discharge AutoFlood III coal hopper will feature a die-cast metal frame and floor design with full interior and end cage detail, as well as highly detailed outlet gates on the bottom of the car. Among other features, this coal hopper will come with separately applied grab irons on the sides and ends, as well as etched see-through crossover platforms on the ends above couplers. Rapido Trains will provide this model with Barber S-2 100-ton truck sideframes with 36-inch metal wheels. A removable coal load will be included with each model.

The first production will present several railroads, power companies, and lease fleet cars. The railroads represented in this release will include BNSF Railway (contemporary “wedge” logo) and Union Pacific (CMO reporting marks with small shield herald). Power company fleet cars will include Gulf Power Company (GLFX reporting marks), Western Resources, Inc. (KPLX reporting marks), and Carolina Power & Light (with PGNX reporting marks). The lease service hoppers coming in this release will include CIT Group (CEFX reporting marks) and GATX Corporation (GGPX reporting marks). Among the CIT Group/CEFX cars, Rapido Trains will offer the specially decorated Indiana Railroad 2,000,000th Carload roster member.

Reservations are being accepted now for these new HO-scale AutoFlood III coal hoppers and Rapido projects a 2022 delivery. The fully assembled models will be sold in single hopper car release and six-pack sets (with multiple road numbers offered for unit train operation).
