Athearn answers modeler requests with news of the first production of HO-scale Amtrak Surfliner passenger car models. The bi-level cars are similar in design to Superliner equipment. The fleet was ordered in the late 1990s and went to work on Pacific Surfliner, San Joaquin, and other services for Amtrak California. This all-new model is planned to arrive in August 2022. The first production will present single model offerings replicating cab/baggage/coach, coach/cafe, coach, and business class car prototypes. Athearn will bundle five Surfliner passenger cars in set. The assembled models will come with or without SoundTraxx SoundCar audio electronics.

To pull these new Surfliner cars, Athearn will have a production of its F59PHI diesel locomotives. The Ready To Roll series HO model will be joined by a matching collection of N-scale releases. Both scales will see DCC-ready F59PHI releases and models with SoundTraxx-made audio. The collection of road names will cover many looks for this four-axle passenger diesel locomotive. Check Athearn’s website for additional details and information.
